At Plungesmile Foundation, our mission as a leading nonprofit organisation in Nigeria is to drive sustainable change in rural communities. In line with our commitment to food security and community development, we have commissioned a solar-powered borehole to provide clean, reliable water for indigenes in Esie community, a rural settlement located in Kwara state, Nigeria. This project is a critical step in supporting our school feeding programme and ensuring children in underserved areas have access to nutritious meals.
Why Sustainable Water Projects Matter
Access to clean water is fundamental for Sustainable Modern Farming Initiatives and healthy communities. By investing in a solar-powered borehole, Plungesmile is not only securing a steady water supply for our crops but also reducing our environmental impact. This sustainable approach strengthens our ability to deliver food donations and supports our broader goal of poverty alleviation in Nigeria.
Impact on School Feeding and Community Development
With the borehole now operational, we are scaling up food production and enhancing the resilience of our School Feeding Programme. Reliable water access means healthier crops, more consistent harvests, and greater capacity to help children in Nigeria. This initiative directly addresses food security and supports our vision for community development.
Boosting School Attendance and Classroom Focus
Access to clean water at school means children no longer have to walk long distances to fetch water before classes begin. This simple change leads to fewer late arrivals and less absenteeism, as students can spend more time learning and less time on chores. With reliable water on-site, children are healthier, more present, and able to concentrate better in the classroom—helping them reach their full academic potential.
Building Healthier Communities and Preventing Disease Outbreaks
Cleaner water sources in rural communities lead to healthier families and fewer waterborne diseases. With safe water available, the risk of illnesses such as cholera, typhoid, and diarrhea drops significantly. Children and adults experience better overall health, and communities spend less on medical treatments, allowing them to focus on education, work, and growth. This simple intervention creates a ripple effect, improving quality of life and building a stronger, more resilient community.
